The 23rd Anniversary of the San Jose Rotary's Charity Golf Tournament
On Monday, February 16, the San Jose Rotary teed up for its 23rd Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser — and what a day it was! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our players, sponsors and supporters, proceeds from the tournament will benefit outstanding charities all working tirelessly to make our community — and our world — a better place. Previous recipients have been: Seamark Ranch, Grace Ministry, Field of Dreams, North Florida School of Special Education and Cornerstone Classical Academy.
We were proud to be backed by four major sponsors: Nimnicht Family of Dealerships, Roy Miller & Associates, JP Perry Insurance, Hartley Press and Jersey Mike's Subs. Fourteen foursomes braved a very chilly day on the course, but the crisp air couldn’t dampen the camaraderie, competition and fun.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of volunteers (Ron Shamlaty, Sr., Captain John Curtin, Mike Farmand, Mike Blakey, Mrs. Linda Smoak, Mrs. Cyndi Sims, Mrs. Dinah Curtin, Mrs. Jeannie Farmand, Theresa Hazel and Gary Harlow) worked tirelessly before, during and after the event — year after year — to make it all possible. Golfers even had a shot at driving home in a brand-new car with a hole-in-one prize. While no one claimed the keys, one impressive swing came within just 18 inches of the cup! After the final putt dropped, everyone gathered to warm up and refuel with a terrific BBQ dinner.
The excitement continued with a fantastic silent auction featuring an incredible lineup of items: a week’s stay at a five-star resort, tickets to TPC, Jaguars tickets, beautiful gift baskets, vintage treasures and certificates to play some of the area’s premier golf courses. A special thank you to Linda Smoak for curating such an amazing auction experience. A heartfelt thank you to Mike Hartley, Hartley Press, for donating $1,000, for the raffle prize.
The day wrapped up with an awards ceremony celebrating our champions. First-place gross honors went (again!) to Steve Farmand’s foursome, and first-place net went to John Curtin’s team.
All in all, it was a memorable day filled with fellowship, friendly competition and purpose. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this event — we invite you to enjoy the photos and relive the highlights of a day that truly made a difference.
